A beautiful light left us and went to heaven. A heart filled with love and joy went to be with the Lord. Monica, with her strong roots and values deeply rooted in being a Christian, she led by example of treating others, how the world should be.

It is with great sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Monica Ruth Owens, age 60, who peacefully left us on March 26th, 2025. Monica was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend whose life was filled with kindness, laughter, and boundless love. She was known for her radiant spirit, unwavering generosity, and the joy she brought into every room. Her deep and unshakable faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day guided by His grace and love.

Born on March 15th, 1965, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Monica was the cherished daughter of Joyce Waltman. She grew up in Hinton, West Virginia, surrounded by her mother, sister, and grandparents. In that small, loving community, she forged lifelong friendships and developed a deep sense of community and family. Monica graduated from Hinton High School in 1984 and from Alderson Broaddus University in 1988.

Monica married the love of her life, Fred Owens, on May 16th, 1992. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love and were blessed with their son, Aaron Owens, as well as their two fur babies, Jack and Diane. Residing in Spotsylvania, Virginia, they built a home that radiated warmth, love, and happiness.

As a faithful servant of the Lord, Monica's devotion to her faith was evident in the love and kindness she showed to everyone around her. She and Fred were active members of Spotswood Baptist Church, where she found peace and joy in her involvement with the children's ministry, nurturing younger generations in their faith.

Monica was a compassionate and strong woman, deeply passionate about supporting organizations close to her heart, such as her workplace B101.5, the Alzheimer's Association, and the Christian Business Women's Network, among others. Her unwavering support, guidance, and wisdom were a gift to all who knew her.

Her family and friends meant the world to her, and she found great joy in every gathering, every conversation, and every shared moment together. Monica's presence was a blessing to all. She was a friend to many, offering a listening ear, a warm embrace, and a kind word whenever it was needed. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her smile was a source of comfort and strength for all who knew her.

Monica is survived by her loving husband, Fred; their son Aaron; mother Joyce; stepfather John Waltman; sister Shellie; brother-in-law Steve Radolinski; cousin Phyllis Whitley; nephew Zach Radolinski; and niece Maddie Radolinski. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ray and Gussie Mowery; grandmother and namesake, Ruth Mowery; her grandfather, Harold Mowery; and her grandmother, Florence Curtis.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 27, 2025 at River Valley Baptist Church at Forest Hill with Pastor Roy Carter, Jr. and Pastor Nathan Smith officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at Forest Hill. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the church.

Though she is no longer with us, her love, light, strength, and unwavering faith in Christ will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to guide us, and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
