Opal Juanita Rodes, 94 of Hinton passed away Tuesday October 18, 2022 at Summers County A.R.H. following a brief illness.

Born December 6, 1927 in Hinton, Opal was the daughter of the late Hubert and Nellie Wygal Maddy.

She was a graduate of Hinton High School and was a homemaker. Opal was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hinton and was a lifelong resident of Hinton.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. "Chase" Rodes, Jr.; a grandson, Daniel Rodes; one brother, H.C. Maddy, Jr. and one sister, Iris Ann Zannucci.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, C.W. Rodes, III (Paula) of Grove City, PA, Stephen Rodes (Tom) of Washington, DC, Philip Rodes (Cynthia) of Troutville, VA, Debra Cyrus (Emmett) of Hinton, Mark Rodes (Teresa) of Hinton, Timothy Rodes of Hinton and Sarah Rodes of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, C.W. Rodes, IV of Grove City, PA, Laura DeWoody (Doug) of Tulsa, OK, Rachel Metcalf (Troy) of Roanoke, VA, Doug Rodes (Amanda) of North Chesterfield, VA, Geoffrey Cyrus (Sarah Megan) of Jumping Branch, Nathan Cyrus (Allison) of Peterstown and Leah Cyrus (Benjamin) of Hinton. Fourteen great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 21, 2022, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are welcome, or in lieu, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or The Ministry Place, both in Hinton.
