Philip Edwin Mann, Jr., 64 a lifelong resident of Summers County, went peacefully to the Lord January 8, 2019 at CAMC General Division in Charleston due to a massive stroke.
Born August 24, 1954 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Philip E. Sr. and Marjorie June Willey Mann.
Philip was a 1971 graduate of Talcott High School and completed 2 undergraduate degrees from Bluefield State as well as an MBA from Virginia Tech. He owned and operated Mann Construction for 10 years and upon selling the business, he went to work at Solid Waste Management Board in Charleston as a business developments specialist. He was also formerly an adjunct professor at Bluefield and Concord Universities, as well as the National Mine Academy in Beckley. Philip enjoyed traveling, music, woodworking, reading and history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip "Bob" Mann and Marjorie June and his only son, Philip Aaron Mann.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Mary Ruth Palmer Mann of Hilldale and a granddaughter, Molly Maddison Mann of Pipestem. Sister, Kathy Peplowski of Beaver along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 12, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor John Offenberger officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services with private scattering by his immediate family at a later date.
