Obituary

Rebecca Sue (Becky) Vines, 79, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on September 5, 2026. She was born on December 18, 1946, in Hinton, West Virginia to Clarence and Margarite Ellison. She spent her early years there before moving with her young family to Peterstown and then Summerville, West Virginia. Later in life, she moved to Greensboro to be near her daughters and the family who meant everything to her.

Becky was a sweet, loving, loyal, and quick-witted woman whose warmth could make people smile when they least expected it. She loved deeply and gave that love freely. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured her roles as wife, mother, and Grannie above all else.

Becky shared 61 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Tom Vines. Their life together was filled with love, family, and countless memories. Tom passed away on June 12, 2026, just a few months before Becky. She loved him deeply, and their bond remained one of the most important parts of her life. Her family finds comfort in knowing they are together again.

She was a devoted mother to Christy Vines Bassett (Bryan) and Andrea Vines Frame, and a proud and loving Grannie to Zack Frame, Kayla Ervin McKenzie, and Alyssa Ervin Marsh. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Ella Kate Marsh, Riley Marsh, and Everly Frame. Being Grannie was one of the roles Becky loved most. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved watching them grow, and gave them a love they will carry with them always.

Becky’s dedication to others also shaped her long and meaningful career as an educator. She earned her teaching degree from Glenville State University in Glenville, West Virginia, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and later received her master’s degree from West Virginia University. She spent more than 35 years in the classroom, beginning as a third-grade teacher and later teaching seventh-grade English.

Teaching was more than a profession to Becky; it was part of who she was. She cared deeply about her students and took pride in helping them learn and grow. The lives of the countless young people she influenced remain an important part of her legacy.

Becky also had a creative heart. She loved painting and drawing and found joy in creating something beautiful. She had a special love for her dogs, who were always important members of her family. These interests, along with her quick wit and gentle spirit, were among the many things that made her uniquely Becky.

When her family thinks of Becky, they will remember more than her accomplishments. They will remember Mom. They will remember Grannie. Most of all, they will remember her love—the sound of her voice, her sweetness, her loyalty, the stories and memories she shared, and the comfort of simply knowing she was there.

Becky leaves behind a lifetime of love that continues through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, former students, and all those whose lives she touched. She was deeply loved and cherished, and she will be missed more than words can say.

She will always be our Mom, our Grannie, and a very special part of our lives.

She is survived by her daughters, Christy Vines Bassett (Bryan) and Andrea Vines Frame; grandchildren Zack Frame (Kara), Kayla Ervin McKenzie (Ian), and Alyssa Ervin Marsh (Ben); great-grandchildren Ella Kate Marsh, Riley Marsh, and Everly Frame; siblings Gary Ellison (Loretta) and Cherie Frazee (Charley); and brother-in-law Ralph Vines (Margie).

Family and friends are invited to attend a joint celebration of life honoring both Tom and Becky on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Restwood Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at Pivont Funeral Home at 12:30 pm to process to the cemetery for the service.
