Obituary

Rhoda Ellen Gwinn, 79, of Meadow Bridge, WV, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.

Rhoda was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina on November 12, 1946, a cherished daughter of the late Howard Bowles and Grace Felkel Bowles.

She spent her formative years in West Virginia, graduating from Sandstone High School.

Rhoda dedicated her professional life to nurturing local children as a Special Education Teachers Aide. Her patient, caring heart left an indelible mark on countless students across the region through her dedicated service at Hinton Area Elementary School, Summers Middle School, and Summers County High School.

A woman of profound faith, Rhoda attended Thorny Point Tabernacle. She spent much of her quiet time reading her Bible and took great comfort in watching the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). She loved the outdoors, took joy in the beauty of flowers, and always looked forward to the warm weather. Rhoda was deeply rooted in her community and could often be found at the community center in Meadow Bridge enjoying a lively game of bingo with her friends. Above all else, she cherished her family, and her greatest joy came from the precious time they spent together.

In addition to her parents, Rhoda was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Gwinn; her beloved daughter, Tammy Hicks, and her brother, Howard Alva Bowles.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Beverly Bragg and her husband, Brady, of Portland, TN, and Angela Gwinn and her husband, Phillip, of Ansted, WV. She is also survived by her brothers, Franklin Bowles and his wife, Judy, of Talcott, WV, and Paul Bowles and his wife, Heyok, of Sebring, FL; her cherished grandson, Alton Trevor Bragg; as well as several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever treasure her memory.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel with Franklin Bowles officiating. Burial will follow at the Bowles Cemetery on Hump Mountain near Sandstone. Friends may visit from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Trevor Bragg, J.R. Bowles, Phillip Pack and Kenny Manning will serve as pallbearers.
