Robert C. "Bigen" Reed, 81 of Kernersville, North Carolina, formerly of Summers County, passed away Monday November 11, 2019 in Thomasville, North Carolina following a long illness.

Born April 25, 1938 at Hix, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Otis Clark and Gracie Ellen Fox Reed.

Mr. Reed was retired from the United States Army with 21 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement, he was the owner/operator of Bigens Muffler Shop in Hinton. Mr. Reed was a Christian and had been a resident of Kernersville for the past 7 years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Deanna Blankenship Reed; three sons, Rob Reed & companion Sheila Ayers of Kernersville, NC, Chris Reed & wife Bonnie of Liberty, NC and Scott Reed & wife Melonie of Kernersville, NC; five grandchildren, Kelly Reed, who he helped raise, Mike Stevens, Gavin and Waylon Reed and Ayden Taylor; three great grandchildren, Harper, Caiden and Rylie; four sisters, Ruth Richmond of Hix, WV, June Wood and Jewell Thompson, both of North Ridgewood, OH and Lois Kincaid of Grafton, OH; a special niece, Sandy Plumley Gillespie of Ballard.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday November 15, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Dana Stalnaker officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in Elk Knob Church Cemetery at Elk Knob. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
