Robert L. Buckland, 82 of Hinton passed away Sunday July 28, 2019 following a long illness.

Born July 2, 1937 in Summers County, he was a son of the late Maxine Buckland Smith.

Robert was a 1958 graduate of Talcott High School, graduate of barber school and was employed as a barber for a number of years. He was also head of the housekeeping department of Summers County Hospital and a former police dispatcher for the City of Hinton. Bob enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting and Bluegrass Gospel music. He was a Christian and lifelong resident of Summers County.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his adopted father, Joe Clark who raised him and a half-brother, Truman "Cricket" Adkins.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Janice Adkins Buckland. Two daughters, Stephanie Bowden and husband Ira of Princeton, WV and Valerie Murrell and husband Wayne of Roanoke, VA. Five grandchildren, Nicholas Bowden and Dwayne, Aliyah, Kayla and Mya Murrell. A half-sister, Mary Alice Smith Lively and husband Caleb of Hinton. Sisters-in-law, Berthena Adkins of Sandstone and Monee Adkins of Shelby, NC and Dorothy Kincaid of Palmira, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday August 1, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Cemetery at Meadow Bridge. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
