Robert "Bob" Glaser was born on May 4, 1935, as the firstborn to Harvey Glaser and Janet Glaser (MacKechnie) in Philadelphia, PA. His brothers William and Elwood followed in 1940 and 1943, respectively. The family was active in the Presbyterian Church, planting the seed for what would become Bob's life calling.

In the late 40's, the family moved to Baltimore, MD, where Bob became interested in sports, particularly swimming and track. He would become a standout member of both teams. He also found himself busy with the Boy Scouts of America, ultimately reaching the title of Eagle Scout. In 1953, Bob was invited to the inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bob's task was to prevent anyone from entering the grandstand without a ticket or special lapel pin. Bob would tell the story in between what was more of a wheezy chuckle than a laugh, of turning away a patron who had neither a ticket nor a pin. The man then flashed what Bob described as "The biggest gold badge he had ever seen". A Secret Service agent nearby gave Bob the green light to let him in, later finding out the guest was none other than J. Edgar Hoover. Bob also found himself working as a lifeguard at what was the second-oldest continually operated Boy Scout Camp in America, Treasure Island Scout Reservation. The camp's placement on two islands between Point Pleasant, PA, and Frenchtown, NJ, in the middle of the Delaware River made for some harrowing adventures. In 1955, as Head Lifeguard, he found himself working through two hurricanes that hit the camp on back-to-back weeks. Hurricanes Connie and Diane caused the Delaware River to rise, necessitating the evacuation of campers and staff by helicopter. Knowing Bob's fear of heights, this must have been a sight to see.

Bob enjoyed giving demonstrations at shows of his prolific canoeing skills. At a Boy Scout Demonstration held at the John D. Kelly Pool in Fairmont Park, Philadelphia, hosted by the Pool's namesake's son, John Kelly Jr, he did just that. He was then chosen to compete in the 1500-meter swim against current Olympian swim team members from Yale and other prestigious universities as a stand-in for a missing swimmer. He took first place by just barely hitting the wall before all the others, which included the #1 ranked 1500-meter swimmer in the country. When asked by one of the competitors who he was, Bob answered, "Don't worry, I head to college in the fall". He was later told that the Olympian came down with Mono following the race. Bob's response was, "He got it after the race, not when I beat him!" Before the day ended, Bob approached the event host and asked him for a date with his sister……..Grace Kelly. Sadly, their paths would never cross, and Grace went on to become royalty.

Bob attended 3 years of High School at Baltimore City College, which he often joked was a notable achievement, having been in college by the age of 15. He then attended his first year of college at Johns Hopkins University. The family moved back to the Philadelphia area, Swarthmore to be exact, where Bob completed his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, at Grove City College in 1957. He then attended Princeton University for three years, earning his Master of Divinity degree in 1960.

During Bob's time at Princeton, he married Joan Williams on November 16, 1957. Throughout their marriage, they had four children: Diane in 1958, Linda in 1959, Robert Jr. in 1961, and David in 1970. While growing his family, Bob established himself within the Presbytery as a minister of God. He started by preaching at the Smithfield Presbyterian Church in Amenia, NY, from 1960 to 1964. He then moved and established the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins, GA, in 1965, becoming its inaugural minister. In 1966, while watching the news, he saw a story that his old high school friend, Jerry Sachs, had been named the Public Relations manager for the Braves. They had just moved the team from Milwaukee to Atlanta. While at a Presbytery meeting in Atlanta, he rang Jerry up, who invited him to the stadium for a tour and to watch the game. After the game, Bob was invited to dinner with the team, where he sat at a table with Henry "Hank" Aaron, Joe Torre, Rico Carty, and Eddie Mathews. As an ardent baseball fan, this was quite the encounter for Bob.

In 1969, Bob moved his family to Forest Hills, Queens, in New York City. This was the year the Miracle Mets won their first World Series, and Bob became a fan for life. He was the minister at the First Presbyterian Church of Forest Hills until 1980, when he moved to Brooklyn and served as the minister at the Prospect Heights Presbyterian Church until 1987. Bob then moved to West Virginia, serving as an interim minister at the Colcord, Clear Creek, and Nitro Presbyterian churches before settling in Hinton, WV, in 1989 as minister for the First Presbyterian Church of Hinton. It was here that Bob met and married his second wife, Virginia Sue Seldomridge (Fischer). Bob retired in 2000 and remained in Hinton, WV, until Sue passed in 2012 after 22 years of marriage. Bob moved back to Lynbrook, NY, filling in for pastors on vacation when needed, until he finally settled in Malverne, NY, with his daughter, Diane, and her family, where he remained until his passing.

Bob was very proud of the family that surrounded him. He was predeceased by his brother William in 2002 and Elwood in 2021. Elwood's wife, Nancy Glaser (Wong), passed in 2024. Bob is survived by two daughters and two sons, Diane Lim and her husband David of Malverne, NY, Linda Carrano and her husband Frank of Port St. Lucie, FL, Robert H. Glaser Jr and his wife Susan of East Northport, NY, and David Glaser and his wife Cara of Windham, NH. Three stepdaughters, Linda Seldomridge of Hinton, WV, Myra Ward and her husband Dale of Hinton, WV, and Teresa Seldomridge of Reston, VA. Eight grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren, Jessica Sagan and husband Shannon of Lake Worth, FL, Debra Lim of Malverne NY, Melissa Bruno and husband Steve of Port St. Lucie, FL, Michael Lim of Malverne, NY, Allison Carrano of Port St. Lucie, FL, Stephanie Glaser of Smithtown, NY, Samantha Glaser of St. Cloud, FL, Lindsay Adams and husband Pete of Talbott, TN, Julia Steele of Somerville, MA,  Jonathan Hartwell and wife Pamela of Hinton, WV, Joshua Hartwell of Hopkinsville, KY, Kimberly  Posten and husband Kenneth of  Charlotte NC, Bradley Ward of Charlotte, NC, Carmen Garcia of Reston, VA. Six great-grandchildren, Cody Bruno, Alex Glaser, Rylee Bruno, Noah Sagan, Riley Dougal, Brooke Adams, and seven step-great-grandchildren, Avel Sagan, Zackery, Sylar, and Zylah Hartwell, Kayleigh, Kristen, and Kenny Posten.

Bob's remains will be cremated, and he will be laid to rest at the Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton, WV, with his wife, Sue, on Monday, October 13, 2025 at 10:00 am.  Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hinton, WV.
