Rose A. Sampson, 90 of Princeton, formerly of Hinton died Thursday September 13, 2018 at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Hilldale following a long illness.

Born July 31, 1928 at Harper, WV she was the daughter of the late Hugh N. and Verna Sutphin Allen.

Rose was a graduate of Hinton High School. She was formerly employed at the Ritz Theatre in Hinton and after moving to Princeton in 1980 was employed at the Princeton Public Library. She also volunteered at Princeton Community Hospital and was very active in the Mercer County Council on Aging while her health permitted. She loved to dance and was a member of the "Case Senior Swingers" and  "Case Country Kickers" for many years. Rose was of the Baptist faith.

Besides her parents, Rose was preceded in death by a daughter, Jet Sampson Jeffries; former husband, James R. Sampson; long-time companion, James Hartwell of Princeton and three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Jackie Jeffries Farley and husband Jimmy, and a great-grandson, Samuel Farley all of Hinton. A step-daughter, Donna Sampson Waller and husband Bill of Powhatan, VA. Son-in-law, Bill Jeffries and wife Patty of Hinton. One brother, George Allen of Punta Gorda, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Tracy Harper Kessinger of Princeton, Lisa Milam of Arkansas and Selena Allen-Martin of Cape Coral, FL.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 22 ^nd , 2018 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. A private interment will be in Woodrumtown Cemetery near Hinton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
