Roy Dennis Mitchem Jr. (Junior), 82, of Hinton, WV passed away peacefully at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV on Friday, March 27, 2026. The family would like to thank the amazing staff and the staff who came to his home over the last year for the excellent care he received.

Roy Jr. was born April 9, 1943 near Sweeneysburg, WV. He graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1962. Roy Jr. worked as a long-distance truck driver for Burns Motor Freight for 40 plus years. He enjoyed working on his farm, playing setback, and going on his yearly quest to find the perfect buck.

Roy Jr. leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia (Jenny) Mae, his children Vicki Mitchem of Talcott, Jackie Richmond (husband Jamie) of Hinton, Robyn Robertson (husband Nick) of Speedway, and Dennis Mitchem of Princeton. Three beloved grandchildren; Maggie Brown (husband Walker), Emily Richmond, and Blake Robertson. His siblings Christine Sarver (husband Lee) of Crab Orchard and Joseph Mitchem (wife Sue) of Maryland, nieces and nephews; Matthew Wright, Deborah Wilson, Andrew Wright, Joseph Mitchem Jr., and Katie Mitchem. Roy Jr. is also leaving behind his precious fur babies Twix, Mocha, Sunka, and Tator.

Roy Jr. is preceded in death by his parents Roy Mitchem Sr. and Idleane Maggie Mitchem of Hinton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Freedom Baptist Church at Powley's Creek with Pastor John Offenberger officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.

At his request he will be cremated and his ashes will be spread on his family farm at a later date.
