Shirley Mae Bragg, 71 of Sandstone, passed away Monday April 11, 2022 at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

Born August 15, 1950 in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late George and Thelma Cales Bragg.

Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Sandstone High School. She was formerly employed at G.C. Murphy Company in Hinton, as a nurses aide at the Hinton Hospital and also Big 4 Drug Store in Hinton. Shirley was a longtime member of Laurel Creek Baptist Church at Sandstone and was a lifelong resident of Summers County. She loved reading, especially the Bible, poetry and photography. Most of all, Shirley was a wonderful caregiver for her mother for many years.

Survivors include an uncle, Eddie Cales of Sandstone, an aunt and caregiver, Tina Cales of Sandstone and several cousins, including a special cousin, Kristi Cales of Roanoke, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday April 14, 2022 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Melvin Wills officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooper Cemetery at Sandstone. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
