Obituary

Shirley Fay Conner, 78, of True, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at CAMC Memorial in Charleston, following a brief illness.

Born in Hinton, WV on February 23, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Billy Joe and Ilene Epperly Edwards, and lived a full, rich life deeply rooted in the mountains of southern West Virginia.

A proud member of the Hinton High School Class of 1965, Shirley went on to build a meaningful and rewarding career.  She first worked at Pipestem State Park but spent the vast majority of her working years in the banking industry at the National Bank of Summers in Hinton, which later became City National Bank.

Outside of work, Shirley was happiest when she was outdoors.  She was a woman who possessed a deep appreciation for the land, spending her time farming and cultivating her gardens.  She was also a dedicated and active member of James Chapel Methodist Church in True, WV, living her faith through her kindness to others.  Dedicated to her community, she was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Above all else, Shirley loved her family with her whole heart.  She was a devoted mother and a doting grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren.  Her warm smile, her love for nature, and her generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Wallace McGraw and Gary Sheneman.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Shawn Conner and wife Savannah of True and Michelle Bowling and husband Brian of Judson; her beloved grandchildren, Taylor and Bailey Bowling, and Breonna, Landry, Avery, and Austyn Conner; sisters, Bobbie Kay McGraw of True and Wanda Joann Sheneman of Brunswick, OH; and a host of extended family members, neighbors, and close friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronald Cobb officiating.  Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joel McGraw, Scott McGraw, Adam McGraw, and Thaddeus McGraw.
