Shirley Susan Barker-Williams, 69 of Bellepoint, went to heaven to be with the Lord, on August 2nd, 2018, after a long illness.

Born at Little Wolf Creek in her Grandparents home, on March 21st, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Betty and Charles Barker and Granddaughter to Henry Beecher and Elisabeth Bolling Tilley, whom she was especially close with. Susie was a strong believer in our heavenly Father and often spoke of her happiness to go home and to be reunited with her Grandparents, her beloved mother Betty and son Ben and the love of her life David.

Susie was a wonderful single mother to her two children Ben and Beth and they were very proud of their mother for having gone back to  school later in life graduating from Concord College with a teaching degree. She taught for many years as a substitute teacher and truly loved her students and enjoyed following them as they grew up, teaching was truly her calling in life and was something that she genuinely loved. Susie was also employed by the Celanese corporation , for a number of years. She loved going to the beach and hunting sea shells and shark's teeth.

Susie was greatly admired for her artistic abilities and spent countless hours crocheting dresses for her daughter, nieces and granddaughter's dolls, blankets and capes for new family members. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, sketching and painting. Susie's family would often joke that she never knew a stranger and loved socializing at all times, even if that was in the aisle of the grocery store. Susie was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Susie was preceded in death by brothers, Gary "Bo" Swanson & Chuck Barker and her son Ben Williams. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Beth Williams, two brothers, Steve Barker and wife Vicki of Forest Hill, Randy Barker and wife Teresa of Forest Hill. Several grandchildren, including Caleb Thompson, Benjamin, Jacob and Holly Williams and one great grandson Aidan Thompson, who was the light of her life. She was survived by three very close nieces Angie Barker Ramsey, Crystal Barker Mitchell, and Sara Barker Copen and their spouses along with other loved  nieces, nephews, aunt and cousins.

She also loved her mothers favorite scripture, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and while her loved ones are devastated by her passing they take great comfort in knowing that they will all be together again soon.

Her body has been cremated, and family and friends may gather with the family at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton on Monday, August  6, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family expresses special thanks to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Dr. Haag, Dr. GilBhrighde and niece Crystal Mitchell for their dedication and care. And to her Granddaughter Holly who was devoted tirelessly to her Grandmothers comfort and care;  and to everyone who offered prayers and encouragement.
