Sulestine Ellen Atkinson, age 84, of Sandstone, passed away on June 4, 2026, at the Lindside Healthcare Center, Lindside, West Virginia.

She was born August 5, 1941, at Sandstone, and was the daughter of the late Elva H. and Roxie Mae Burdette Ayers.

She worked as a Bus Driver for the Summers County Board of Education for four years, but for most of her life she was a devoted homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Atkinson, and two brothers, Acie Ayers, and Elva F. Ayers (Pootsie).

Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Richard Allen (Christy) of Sandstone, Lawrence Allen (Denise), of Gap Mills, Paul Allen (Laura) of Irish Mountain Road, and Lonnie Allen of Bellwood, West Virginia.

One sister, Mary E. “Libby” Ayers of Sandstone, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at the Sandstone Baptist Church, with Pastor Heath Ward officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, West Virginia. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am, until 1:00 pm at the church.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
