1 st Sgt. Thomas O. Clinebell, 96 of Hinton died Tuesday January 12, 2021 at Beckley A.R.H. Hospital.
Born January 18, 1924 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Frederick Calvin Will and Mattie Jean Lilly Will Clinebell.
Tom grew up in Bellepoint and loved to hunt, fish, trapp, play baseball, basketball, football and spending time at the Service Station. Tom was a WWII veteran, 1 st Sergeant, 101 st Airborne, serving in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy. He was also retired from the National Guard.
Tom was a retired train dispatcher for the C&O Railway Company in Hinton. He married his wife of 67 years, Betty Willey Clinebell of July 15, 1949 and together they raised 3 boys on the rivers and lake, waterskiing and camping at the Bluestone Boat Club. Tom also coached grade school basketball and football in the 1960's. One of Toms' favorite pastimes was grouse hunting with his brittanys' and the boys after retirement. Tom was Emergency Services Director of Summers County and 911. He also served as chairman of the WV State Water Festival, Chairman of the Water Festival Boat Races and was on the board of Directors of the APBA. In addition, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, AOPA, Shriners, Masons, Lions and the Dawn Sportmans Club. He also loved flying a 172 Cessna and taking pontoon rides with Betty and Sniffer, his beloved dog. Before his passing, Tom was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church of Hinton. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Willey Clinebell; one son, Steve Clinebell, a brother, Hubby Clinebell and a sister, Peggy Jack Baylor.
Survivors include two sons, David Clinebell and wife Venesia of Nimitz and Joe Clinebell and wife Becky of Hinton; grandchildren, Kim Jordan, Tad Clinebell, Erica Reed, Melissa Kirkham, Corey Lambert and Shawn Titta; great grandchildren, Sydney and Clay Jordan, Parker Reed, Bella and Colt Kirkham and Layne and Charlotte Lambert; great, great granddaughter, Zoey Reed; and Sniffer, Tom's sidekick.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m Friday January 15, 2021 at Pivont Funeral Home. Private graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Greenbrier Burial Park Mausoleum.
