Vanessa Dawn Gunter, age 59, affectionately known by her family as Messy, passed away on March 10, 2024 after battling a short illness with cancer.

Vanessa was born March 28, 1964 at what was once known as Hinton Hospital.  She worked and resided in Hinton in the early part of her life before moving to Arizona for a number of years, and then decided to move back to WV to be near her family.

Vanessa was an avid cook; the Food Network and other cooking programs were often her TV viewing choices.  Her skills in the kitchen were often featured at family events, some creations highly welcome, others not so much. Regardless of how her dishes were received by us you could count on them to be creatively displayed. Vanessa was also a fan of gardening, particularly flower gardening.  She and her sister Liz spent many hours creating beautiful displays.

Vanessa spent most of her career working as a Medical Office Manager and had continued to do so up until her illness necessitated leaving her job.

Vanessa is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, the late John Gunter and wife Nelsie Gunter Hicks, as well as her maternal grandparents Linus Grimmett and wife Irene Bragg Grimmett.  Included are several Aunts and Uncles.

Vanessa is survived by her parents James Gunter and Harriet Gunter of Sandstone, WV. She is also survived by multiple siblings that are featured in the following birth order: Debbie Snipes and spouse Keith, Steven Gunter and spouse Zandra, John Gunter and spouse Vicki, Elizabeth Meadows, and Angie Knight (and deceased spouse Stevie). She was a favored Aunt of several nieces and nephews, Kimberly Palmer, Kristen Meadows, Kayla Gunter, Briana Miller, Jacob Knight, and Logan Knight. Vanessa is also survived by numerous Aunts and Uncles, as well as many Great Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate Vanessa's life will be held at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton, WV on Sunday March 17, 2024.  The family will receive friends and relatives from 12 pm to 2 pm, with the service to immediately follow.  Pallbearers will be Elizabeth Meadows, Steven and John Gunter, Jacob and Logan Knight, and Clayton Reed.  Burial services will occur at Richmond Cemetery at Sandstone, WV.
