Wilbur Payne Lemon Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Bowers Hospice House. 

Wilbur proudly served three years in the United States Army. After his military service, he devoted 42 years to working as a bus driver in his former home state of Virginia before retiring.

Wilbur had a love for the simple pleasures in life and created many wonderful memories with the people he loved. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his sister, Wanda. In his later years, he especially enjoyed taking long rides, attending car shows, and going to dances. He truly loved getting out and enjoying life. He also looked forward to going out to eat, especially at Shoney’s and Golden Corral.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Lemon. Following Bonnie’s passing, Wilbur was blessed with the companionship and love of Tammy Fortner, with whom he shared many meaningful years and cherished memories.

He is survived by his four daughters: Dawn Lemon and her partner, Brian; Heather Lester and her partner, Brittany; Kayla Adkins and her husband, Joe; and Jessica Reed and her husband, Scotty.

He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Destiny McAlpine; Jaelyn Lester; Harper and Wesley Adkins; and Emily, Ella, Colton, Kinley, Lainey, and Charleigh Reed.

Wilbur will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of family, his enjoyment of the open road, and the many memories he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September 8, 2026 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
