Obituary

Willard Leon "Bill" Hopkins, 83, of New River Road, Hinton passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at CAMC General Division in Charleston, WV.

Born December 29, 1936, in Chilhowie, VA, he was the son of the late Lucille Hopkins Chavis.

Bill was a retired self-employed trucking contractor and also a former meat cutter for A&P Company in Columbus, OH. He had been a resident of Logan for many years, retiring to the New River in 1994. He was a former hobby farmer, raising cattle, and was an avid outdoorsman. Bill especially loved fishing, hunting, and also gardening. In addition to his love of the outdoors, he also was a bowling devotee and enjoyed this sport immensely. He was a member of New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Hinton, a former member of the New River Parkways Authority for 17 years and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by step-father, Raymond Chavis; a stillborn infant daughter; one son, Willard Hopkins, Jr.; two half-brothers, William Hopkins and Raymond Chavis, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Delores Senator Hopkins; one daughter, Deborah Howell and husband Darrell of New Jerusalem, OH; step-daughter, Sherry Lynn Cash and companion Steve of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Hilda Cooper and husband Glenn of Myrtle Beach, SC and Eva Chavis of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, William Cash and wife Tricia of Sugarcreek, OH, Penny Cash Spillers and husband Victor of Columbus, OH, Danielle Howell of Ohio and David Howell of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren, Damian and Sierra Cash, Wyatt Miller, Hayley Kraft, Aiden Spillers, Brennen and Bailee Campbell, and Winnie and Carl Haney of Ohio.

A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date at Highland Memorial Gardens in Logan, WV.
