William Clayton "Poody" Ballard, Jr., 86 of Hinton, passed away Thursday January 16th, 2025 at his home following a short illness.

Born July 12, 1938 in Hinton, he was the son of the late William C. Sr. and Ima Jean Ellison Ballard.

Poody was an avid outdoorsman, an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He also loved camping. He was employed at several service stations in the Hinton area and loved mechanics and working on cars. He was a former member of the US Army National Guard. Most of all, he was a dedicated to his daughter Peggy, as well as his entire family. Poody was of the Baptist faith and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Meadows Ballard in 2014; one brother, Charles Butch Ballard; half-brother, Randall S. Ballard along with a cherished aunt, Ruth Darlington.

Left to cherish his memory include two sons, Timothy Clayton Ballard and wife Linda of New Castle, PA and James Robert "Little Poody" Ballard of Hinton, WV; four daughters, Ruth Ann Basham and husband Harold and Karen Pack and husband Herman, both of Jumping Branch, WV, Robin Lynn Bragg and husband Greg of Grandview, WV and Peggy Sue Ballard at home; half-brother, Steve Ballard and wife Kim of Beckley. Eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 22, 2025 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Ronald Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Jones, Don DeWitt and Dennis Robertson.
