PFC Basil Marion Cook, age 31, was killed in action serving his country in Huchein, Germany, November 25, 1944, during World War II.   He was a tank operator, and the tank he was operating, was hit with a land mine.  His body was buried in The Netherlands, and remained there until DNA testing was able to identify his remains, so that he now could be returned to his hometown to be buried.

He was born November 11, 1913, and was the son of Harvey Green Cook, and Mary Elizabeth Rachel Cook, both of whom are now deceased.

At the time of his death, he was married to Ida Ruth Cook.

At the time of his death, he had four sisters Lessie McClung and husband "Doc", Bessie Ellis, and husband George, Eleanor Bandy, and husband Max, Mamie Taylor, and husband Dewey, and one brother Homer C. Cook, and wife, Blanche, and also a half brother Jack Cook.  All of these are since deceased.

Relatives remaining today are two nephews, Richard "Dickie" Cook of Princeton, and Larry Cook, as well as two nieces Phyllis Honaker and husband, Robert, of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Pat Ferber, and husband Richard of Forest Park, Georgia.

Graveside Services for PFC Cook, will be held at Restwood Memorial Gardens, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Ronnie Cobb officiating, and burial will follow with full military honors. A procession will leave Pivont Funeral Home at 11:30 am Wednesday August 6, 2025.
